Caleb Garling is a carpenter and woodworker in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California. He works on projects large and small from framing homes to building Japanese joinery-style end tables. He is always interested in talking projects and would love to hear from you.

House work

Window and door trim from locally harvested cedar. Door designed with altar shelf above.

Designed, milled and built fireplace trim from locally harvested maple. Fastners hidden with black walnut plug details.

Bathroom vanity, mirror, shelving and window trim. Designed and built a cohesive unit in a small bathroom. Also carved the sink from a granite boulder in the nearby creek.

Fir tread stairs to match interior beams (light use stairs) and burnt cedar risers

Interior timber framing: replaced falling-apart ceiling joists with new 4X8 members that spanned living room and terminated in bathroom. Designed and managed all construction.

Walnut counter top. Joined two pieces of walnut and repaired splitting end with bowtie to use a treasured piece of walnut for client’s tiny home kitchen counter.

New barn siding. Used burnt cedar planks to update a century-old barn into an artist and event space.

Interior drywall installation–insulation, measure/cut board, tape, mud and sand.
